June 16, 2021, Nashville Tennessee: The Modifieds of Mayhem Tour  took over Music City at Historic Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway this past weekend for a 50-lap shootout. The Modifieds of Mayhem series came in as the main event, rolling off the grid as the last race of the night. Coming into Nashville, Bill Burba and Johnny Walker were tied in the points standings, followed by Kevin Peel in third. The tour has had 48 different competitors so far in the 2021 Season.

Most of the Modifieds were present on Friday afternoon as practice got under way. A great showing of cars showed up for the weekend, with 25 total Modifieds on site. As practice got underway Friday, it was “The Mayor of Lickskillet”, Johnny Brazier #71 sitting at the top of the leaderboards.\

Parker Pugh #7 was the second fastest in Friday’s practice, before the motor let go. Pugh was followed by points leader Bill Burba #26, Cody Stickler #99, and Ricky Moxley #38.

As Saturday’s practice rolled off, it was Gary Sanford Jr. #5 jumping to the top of the leaderboards, followed by Augie Grill #112, Ricky Moxley #38, Doug Moff #46, and Johnny Brazier #71.

Bill Burba #26 showed top five speed all weekend, but quickly jumped to the top of the qualifying leaderboards and into the top position. Burba was followed by a fast Gary Sanford Jr. #5, and Williams Skaggs #71 rounding out the top 3. Cody Stickler switched over to the #46 car after his car had issues in the final practice on Saturday. He jumped in the #46 and qualified fourth. Johnny Brazier #71 rounded out the top five in the qualifying run, but after the redraw, he saw himself leading the field to the green on the pole, inside of Bill Burba #26 who drew the second position. Johnny Walker #72, Ricky Moxley #38, and Cody Stickler #46 rounded out the top five to start the 50-lap shootout.

As the engines fired up, and cars rolled off of the grid in front of a packed out Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway under the lights, it was Johnny Brazier #71 leading the field to green. As we got under way, a battle for the lead between Brazier and Burba took place, before Bill Burba #26 was able to clear the #71 car of Brazier. Behind the battle for the lead, the Alabama veteran Augie Grill #112 began to make his way through the field, following Ricky Moxley #38. Brandon Curren #00, the Alabama native saw his car have issues early on in the race, and he was forced to bring it into the pits. Battles took place all through the field, a multiple lap battle between Tennessee fan favorite Jimmy Schutt #777, the driver from Ohio, Jason Wells #43, and South Alabama driver Will Mack #12, resulted in Jason Wells #43 coming out on top, before he saw his car overheat and was forced to come down pit road. Another battle for the seventh position between Johnny Walker #72, Johnny Brazier #71, Kevin Peel #18, and Austin Evans #19 all continued to fight for positions. Larry Hughes #88 charged his way through the field, starting in the 18th position and fighting his way up to 13th. Bill Burba #26 lead the field, as Ricky Moxley #38 and Augie Grill #112 ran two and three right behind.

As laps began to wind down, Bill Burba #26 became the man to beat, showing fast speed and hitting his marks. Just as Burba saw the white flag come out, and he could taste Victory Lane, a caution come out for a spin in turn 1, and it would set the main event up for a green-white-checkered finish. Bill Burba #26 would lead the field to green on the inside, with Ricky Moxley #38 to his outside, Augie Grill #112 behind him, and William Skaggs #71 starting in fourth.

Bill Burba #26 was able to hold off the hard charging William Skaggs #71 and Ricky Moxley #38 to take the checkered flag and the win. Bill Burba #26 has a lot of meaningful wins at many different tracks, but this was his first time hoisting the Guitar at the historic 5/8th mile Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.

Bill Burba #26 was followed by William Skaggs #71 who had a great last restart, and Ricky Moxley #38. Augie Grill #112 and Cody Stickler #46
