This weekend the Modifieds of Mayhem Tour took on the 4/10 mile Crisp Motorsports Park in Cordele, Georgia. Crisp Motorsports Park is the second stop on the schedule for the MoM Tour, with Augie Grill #112 coming into the weekend as the points leader. Augie captured the win at Montgomery Motor Speedway to kick the 2022 season off. Jeff Letson #131 came into the weekend second in points followed by Kaden Honeycutt #21, Barry Martin #68, and Jaxon Bishop #2. Many good looking hotrods from across the southeast came out to support the MoM Tour and out on a show for the Georgia crowd.
The #42 crew of Richie Smith lost an oil pump during Friday night’s practice session. The crew drove home to Florida, fixed it, and proceeded to drive back to the track. The crew could have decided just not to race, but instead busted it to get the car ready to race. We love the dedicated racers that will do anything they can to make it out to the track and race. After showing back up with a fixed race car, Richie Smith #42 was fastest in practice and in qualifying.
After rotating practices, qualifying kicked the day off with Richie Smith #42 claiming the pole. Barry Martin #68 qualified second with Jaxon BIshop #2 and Clayton Green #54 rounding out the top 4. After a re-draw of the top 4 qualifiers, Jaxon Bishop #2 would lead the field to green with Clayton Green #54 starting on the outside of the front row. Barry Martin #68 would roll off third and Ritchie Smith #42 fourth.
Racing kicked off with Jaxon Bishop #2 leading his first laps of the season in the MoM Tour and beating Clayton Green #54 on the restart. Richie Smith #42 fought his way up to second before having car troubles and pulling his car to pit road and race officials brought out the yellow. On the restart, Jaxon Bishop #2 held off Barry Martin #68 and Brandon Curren #00 before the caution flag waived again. Bishop #2 was able to hold off Barry Martin #68 and Brandon Curren #00 once again and took his first Modifieds of Mayhem Tour Victory at Crisp Motorsports Park.
Jaxon Bishop #2 would get his second top 5 of the season after a 5th place finish at Montgomery Motor Speedway to start the year off. Barry Martin #68 would bring it home second and get his second top 5 of the season as well with 2nd and 4th place finishes. Brandon Curren #00 would round out the top 3. Clayton Green #54 and Johnny Walker #72 rounds out the top 5 at the Watermelon 50.
We are now two races into the 2022 Modifieds of Mayhem schedule and the MoM Point Standings could not be any closer. Jaxon Bishop #2 and Barry Martin #68 are both tied for the lead with 92 points a piece. Johnny Walker #72 finished 6th at the Modifieds of Mayhem 58 and 5th this weekend at Crisp Motorsports Park. Walker sits third in the point standings just 10 points off the leaders. Matt Martin #168 and Brandon Curren #00 both round out the top 5 and are both less than 30 points out of the lead.
