Cody Stickler Wins Modifieds of Mayhem “Battle at the Beach”

August 24, 2024 Pensacola, Florida: When Cody Stickler has ran with the Modifieds of Mayhem tour in 2024, he’s been undefeated. That stat remained true on Friday night with Stickler’s victory in the Battle at the Beach at Five Flags Speedway.

Stickler, who was driving the Richie Smith no. 42 machine, was blazing fast all throughout the day on Friday, topping both practice sessions and qualifying in pole position.

Stickler had to face some opposition to start the feature however, as he drew a six in the invert.

The 50 lap race saw Jeff Letson, who led the series standings heading into the weekend, jump to an early lead, but it was inevitable that Stickler would find his way to the front.

Stickler worked his way from sixth starting spot eventually catching Letson, Stickler tried the inside a couple of times and couldn’t make the pass. Stickler stepped to the outside coming off turn 2 to make the pass for the lead. Jeremy Williams settled for second and Jeff Letson fell to a third place finishing spot.

“I gotta thank Richie Smith for letting me drive tonight. Car was really, really fast,” said Stickler in victory lane. “I really hope when we come back in December for the Derby, I don’t have to race against this car.”

Another interesting footnote from this feature was a nice show of sportsmanship between a couple of the drivers. L.J. Grimm offered Parker Pugh one of his engines after Pugh experienced mechanical troubles, with Pugh and his team thrashing on their car all day long to get the new engine installed.

Pugh would go on to finish in seventh position.

The next stop for the Modifieds of Mayhem tour is Montgomery Motor Speedway on October 19th, which will see the series run twin 35-lap features in its penultimate event of the year. The tour will finish the year with a return trip to 5 Flags Speedway for the Snowball Derby 75 December 6, 2024
